About Us:
In the fall of 2012 Folwell Community Education emerged as a new site within Minneapolis Community Education through a 21st Century Learning Center Grant. Folwell Community partners closely with Minneapolis Public Schools Extended Learning to provide a seamless after school program with numerous academic and enrichment opportunities. The 21st Century Grant expands community partnerships, increases student learning through interest-based and hands-on activities, and provides service and leadership opportunities
Extended Learning is an extension of the Folwell school program. All students that require supplemental support in reading and or math are provided with focused instruction by licensed teachers. In grades K-5, all students are matched with a mentor so that skills that need attention are given a particular focus.
Folwell Community Education’s program hours are 3:10-5:30 Monday through Thursday beginning in September and ending in May. A summer program will be offered beginning in mid-June.
Current program partners include: Area Learning Center, Northern Star Council, MN Opera, Fred Wells Tennis and Education Center, University of Minnesota, YWCA Girls Inc., Girl Scouts of River Valleys, Hip Hop History of the Arts, Ace in the City, La Oportunidad, Pillsbury United Communities and Backpack Tutors.
This program is funded in part with a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) using Federal 21st Century Community Learning Center Funding. Neither MDE nor the US Department of Education endorses the programs or services.
