Who are we?

The HYPE Council is a group of high school aged students from Minneapolis who work together to promote empowerment by funding youth driven service projects.  

What does HYPE do?

HYPE is a youth-run organization that funds youth-run service and advocacy projects.  The council works together to review grant applications for projects and funds projects that support the community. You can check out some projects HYPE funded in the 2018-2019 school year below!

Grant Guidelines and FAQs

  • What are the application deadlines? November 25th, 2019
  • What can HYPE fund?
    • Project involves and serves youth attending the MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Non-profits or agencies that serve youth during out of school time may apply AS LONG AS the majority of youth served attend the MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
    • New projects or year two of a project. We cannot fund the same organization for more than two consecutive years for the same award (mini or full)
    • You must be associated with a MPS school, Minneapolis Community Ed afterschool program, or a registered nonprofit/agency that serves MPS youth to apply (awards cannot go to individuals or for-profit organizations). 
    • HYPE awards cannot be used for capital equipment, including: TVs, computers, electronic equipment, cameras, uniforms, etc.
    • The Council cannot support ideas that are not related to youth learning through hands-on projects.
    • Projects must meet the needs of youth and communities served by MPS.
  • What is the difference between a Full Award and Mini Award?
    • Mini-Awards- up to $250 to individual students or groups who want to make a difference in their community.
    • Full HYPE Awards- up to $1500- for student groups/classrooms with a project in mind to create community change and meaningful youth contribution.
